Schools Reconstruction Process

After the devastating earthquake in Indonesia, many school buildings were completely destroyed, leaving children without a place to learn. To rebuild and restore education, Our Goals has partnered with local NGOs to construct new earthquake-resistant schools, bringing hope back to the region.

BUDGET

We work with local communities and partners to determine a realistic budget for rebuilding and improving schools. Quality education is important and we want to invest while being mindful of limited resources.

PLANNING

We partner with NGOs, teachers, parents and students to form strong partnerships rooted in a shared commitment to learning. By listening to their needs, we can create child-friendly, safe classrooms where students are excited to learn.

EXECUTION

We provide funding and project management to construct sturdy, welcoming school buildings. But rebuilding the physical structure is only part of the solution. We also invest in the students themselves by providing English teachers.

At Our Goals, we believe that bold ideas and actions drive transformation. The Southeast Asian haze of 2019 was a catalyst for change, prompting Our Goals’ founder, Ana Ponea, to partner with Indonesian nonprofits and embark on a mission to construct sustainable preschools.

Aligned with the SDGs, Our Goals have become known for turning plastic waste into schools and spearheading CSR initiatives that resonate deeply in rural Indonesia.

The opening of a sustainably built school in Lombok in 2023 marked a significant milestone in our ongoing journey.

In a region prone to natural disasters, the safety of our school structures is paramount. Extensive research informs our earthquake-resistant designs, ensuring that our schools offer a safer learning environment compared to concrete schools.

The innovative use of lightweight blocks minimises the risk in seismic events, providing peace of mind for the communities we serve.

Building Blocks of Community and Learning

Constructing a block school is a community effort between engineering and local participation. The school building is completed in under a week, allowing teaching to start immediately.

Our procurement policy upholds integrity at each step, ensuring materials and methods are sustainable and respectful of human and environmental rights. Our Goals’ founder, Ana is present in person throughout the planning, construction and opening phase of each school built, whilst working closely with teachers and the community.

Before students enter their new classrooms, community volunteers add vibrant murals and handwashing stations to emphasise the importance of hygiene.

Sustainability Education

At Our Goals, we provide access to quality schooling to empower generations to think critically, act responsibly, and care for our shared planet. Sustainability education is part of the curriculum at Our Goals’ schools.

Our founder Ana regularly communicates with teachers in our schools to ensure that climate action is included in the children’s education. Ana also created her own English-language teaching materials and partnered with a local printing company in Singapore so she could provide these to the children. Ana has also developed a bespoke English language curriculum for the students.
